Tang

What I liked about TANG for The Haunted: I found that the performance space was really good, we didn't have a door so if there had been a bar open it would have been really difficult for our show which was theatre. Other performers who came to see shows here loved it for being like two black box spaces. I'd say that it should have come with a serious health warning this year however our audiences loved arriving into Space 1 through the darkened stairs and deserted bar area. The amount of work it took to get it up and ready was immense but actually I enjoyed that part of it. I'd say that some people really jumped in and helped get the venue ready. Obviously it will be open next year so it's there to build on on, it would be amazing to get one of the floors open as an accessible venue, but not sure if that is at all possible. Once we got the WA group going people pulled together and mucked in. Not everyone cleaned up after their audiences, we had to clean a silly amount of bottles, cans and cups from the bar area each day when we got in, and not having a bar and toilets did mean we lost people who wanted to hang out between shows. This would be sorted if it was an open venue. We got an audience every day but the people walking past were looking for comedy and not theatre,. Our numbers were between 2 & a full house. We were grateful for the PA service and we definitely got people through the WWB. We shifted a lot of WBB's outside on Blair Street. One thing we did have to face was a bit of bad men behaviour with men touching and being leery outside the door, that was shite.

Apologies for how late this report is (I had a bereavement during Fringe and I rather fell apart once I got home). Anyway. Tang was an amazing find.... minus a few issues including with rubbish not being collected and toilets not being cleaned. The venue therefore deteriorated during the run. But, I have to say what an amazing effort everybody put in at the start of the run before my show started. Numbers were decent, my average was around 20 people, sometimes down to 8, but on the penultimate night 51 (capacity). Reaching capacity came with a massive issue in that the room I was in... became unbearably hot. I had several older audience members leave and when I had finished the show, I was overheated and shaking. The WBB and flyering went well. Standing outside the venue or heading up the hill worked well. I tended to start there and work my way down. We had a lovely vibe between my show and the others, all supporting each other.

does anyone have any photos of inside Tang at all? What is the space like, and any tech?

It was being refurbished last year, so probably/hopefully looks very different now
