I was the venue captain for Subway. My show number was 186. Subway is a great venue. Marc, Dylan and all the other staff are all great and could not have been more helpful. It's a big room with a proper stage and lighting. It seats 80 people. There were no issues with noise or anything like that. It's also in a great location as a lot of potential audience walk around Cowgate looking for free shows. I just flyered on the street outside before my show and always got plenty of people in. We used a PBH PA but the venue had their own chairs. I couldn't ask for a nicer venue and hope I can come back there next year.
I had 2 shows in #subway this year (2023): A 40 minute WIP (442) at 1315 and a mixed bill compilation at 2045 (457). I loved the venue. Its got a nice big stage and the acoustics are great considering how high the ceiling is. The smallest crowd I had was 22 but the laughs felt way bigger. It was packed out at the weekends and as Tom said, its a great location for passing punters. The app really helped too and being able to store belongings upstairs on the mezzanine floor was a god send. They have a covered beer garden attached to the club that is absolutely rammed in the evenings at the weekends, running flyers round there and talking to people at the tables drew loads into the comp show. Although it is lit with a single LED spot light, the stage is quite dark but I used my own LED pars on the tables up on the mezzanine floor and it was an absolute game changer. Honestly one of the best venues I played in all Fringe, especially when it was packed out! Id love to do it again next year.
I was the venue captain for Subway again. My show number was 204. Sorry, I completely forgot to write this show report in September, but here it is now. Once again, Subway is great venue. My report is basically the same as last year. Dylan and all the staff are great, the room is great and it's a great location too. I've been at Subway for three Fringes now. It's one of the best venues on the Free Fringe and I hope I'm there again next year. Thanks to the Subway staff and PBH. Let me know if you've got any questions.
