Here is the place to write a Show Report for your venue, detailing as much information as you can that might help shows there in years to come. Include things such as dimensions of stage, passing traffic, good spots to flyer, useful promo, tech equipment, ambient noise; anything that will help give shows a good idea of the venue before they arrive. **Please include your show number so we can confirm your show report is in the right venue forum**

Beak cocktail boys (show 207). We did a full run of a sketch show at 10pm Specs: Seats about 30, 40 at a stretch with some standing room. A few nights we did some rearranging of furniture to fit people in but most nights 20 seats was more than enough. The good: The bar rules, and the staff were super nice. We ended up befriending a few of them. The room is a bit of a blank canvas, but there's a TV above the performance area which was great for us cos we could use a screen and the whole stage area at the same time, just needed to buy a long hdmi chord. We were able to get decent numbers through flyering nearer to high street, focussing on people heading towards the canongate. Bad: Not much, but to be nitpicky lighting is very simple, there was no backstage area so we had to set up our own, and there's a bit of noise from the bar. Usually not bad but on Tuesdays they run trivia in the bar which was pretty disruptive, especially to the show before us. Storage is also very limited but they kindly let us keep our props there as long as they were out of the way One annoying thing about the venue is that the first show has to set up the space each day and the last show has to reset it back into bar mode. To be honest this is a pre-existing rule but it might be worth renegotiating, as they done seem to care that much about it and I don't know how much they use that space during the day anyway. It would make performers lives a lot easier if it could just stay set up. Obviously up to the venue but could be worth asking Overall we loved our run at kilderkin, it had a great vibe, great staff, good performance space and a decent location. In the future with a sketch show we might try go for one of the venues with lighting and a backstage, but this suited us very well this year
It was a good venue with really nice and helpful staff. I had the first show of the day and the room was set up for it. So no issues there. The chairs were linked in rows and the rows were pushed together for cleaning i assume but it was a 2 minute job to push them back. Well ventilated with the back door which was great as it was never stuffy.
Show report for Sofa SoFunny So Fringe (Show 143) at Kilderkin, 7:30pm. The pros: - The staff at Kilderkin were always helpful and supportive, from get-in day when the speaker wasnt working straight through the full run. Hats off to them - theyre a lovely bunch. (And the staff discounts were nice too.) - The room itself is a good size and shape for stand up, though the booths at the side are a bit of a pain as punters invariably prefer to sit there - suggest putting reserved signs down there in future at least until the chairs are filled. - Unlike most Fringe venues, the room temperature was absolutely fine. Being at ground level and with doors to the outside, you can even get a nice breeze if needed. - Also unlike some venues, the phone signal was fine, no issues with Zettle. - Its a dog-friendly pub - on a personal note I love this, but also its an extra way in to conversation when flyering dog owners. The cons: - Lighting is not what Id want for a show normally - no spots, one bright light on the back wall of the stage area, and some fairy lights, so less than ideal. - Some noise bleed from the main pub, particularly if they have the speaker just outside the room turned on (which only happened a couple of times). - The biggest negative about this venue is its distance down the Royal Mile; it can be difficult to get punters to come down from busier areas, and passing foot traffic is very low. Our house numbers were widely varied; from cancelling once as no audience (sob) to what felt like a full house with 26 punters in. What audiences did come were very engaged, (Note the show after ours did much better in audience numbers, helped no doubt by having a show title that placed it at the top of the overall Fringe listings, and by having a big social media profile. Fair play to em, they filled the room most nights.) As our first outing at the Fringe we were really pleased to be at Kilderkin. Well look for a more central venue next year though.
